Hands on Woodturners

                                               15 June 2006 Meeting

The meeting began at 7:10 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club Vice President Tony Cortese.

There were 37 in attendance with 35 singing in.

   Business in order of presentation:

1.  Treasurer Frank Sospenzi read the treasurers report.  The treasurers report and secretaries report were unanimously accepted without change.

2.  A report was given on the new club trailer.  It  was found that it is too large to fit under the overhang of the VFW club where we have our meetings and also difficult to tow without the extended side mirrors.  It is believed that this new trailer can be sold or traded for a smaller trailer at no additional cost to the club.  A motion was made and seconded to sell the trailer and purchase a smaller one which will better fit the club’s needs.  The motion passed unanimously.

3.  There was a discussion on the club’s OneWay 1018 lathe.  The lathe has not been used for demo’s as when a lathe larger than a mini is needed – demonstrators have chosen to use the club’s larger Stubby.  A motion was made, seconded and passed -- to raffle the club’s OneWay 1018 lathe.  Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 each and the winning ticket will be drawn at the meeting following the date when a minimum of 100 tickets have been sold.

4.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to purchase a Jet Mini lathe for approximately $269.  This lathe will be used for  those club demos which require a mini lathe.

5.  Nick DiMona gave another report on the new web page.  We are still working on it and data from the previous web page has been imported.  The new address is;  www.handsonwoodturning.org   The new web site will allow us to list items for sale.

Demostration:

Bob Huss did the demonstration.   He used his personal OneWay 1018 lathe and demonstrated how he makes identical candle sticks.  Unique tools included a tapered drill he had ground himself to fit the bottoms of candles and a magnetic pattern holder which made it easier for him to make identical candle sticks.  The demonstration was exceptionally well planned and went quickly.  It was enjoyed by all.

Next month will be a demo by Al Caton on 20 July 2006.

Respectfully submitted,

 Ken Habedank, Secretary
