Hands on Woodturners 19 Oct 2006 Meeting
The meeting began at 7:15 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club President Ron Browning. There were 38 in attendance.
Business in order of presentation:
1. Ron encouraged club members to attend the Dunnellon Heritage Days at Rainbow Springs State Park on 27-28 Oct from 0900 until 1600 hours. The club will have an area for selling things members have turned. When items are sold, 20% of the sales price goes to the event host.
2 Our treasurer, Frank Sospenzi, provided the treasurer’s report. He also reminded members that memberships must be renewed at the Jan 2007 meeting as that is the start of the new membership year. The treasurers report and the secretaries report from the last month were, as always, available for all to review. They have also been available on the club’s web site (www.handsonwoodturning.org).
3. Frank Sospenzi announced that the club will again have tables for selling club turned items at the Wood Carver’s club sale. This will be held at the Inverness Fairgrounds next to the airport the first Saturday in December (2 December).
4. Tony Cortese announced that George Benac and Don Wither have agreed to be on the nominating committee for 2007 club officers. Please contact them if you are willing to serve as an officer or on one of the committees.
5. Dave Melton encouraged members to plan to attend the club’s Christmas party during the December meeting, 21 Dec 2006. He handed out sign up sheets for those intending to attend. There will be a gift exchange and an ornament exchange at the Christmas party.
6. Sue Morris won the “bring back” by last month and her husband Richard turned one of the most beautiful pieces ever donated for a club “bring back” for this month. WOW!!! It was a hollowed and pierced sphere. Roger Tafton won the “bring back.” Yes, that is one that everyone in the room would have loved to win! Thank you Richard!!!
. Barrie Harding did the demo. Per club request, Barrie demonstrated turning and piercing one of his, thin wall vases. Barrie put out more good, useful information during this two hour demo than this humble turner has saw during any of the demos I attended at the 2006 National AAW Symposium. It was truly an outstanding demo! Yes, I even took notes!!! Thank you Barrie!
Next month we will have another great tips and tricks session--- 16 Nov 2006.
Respectfully submitted,
Ken Habedank, Secretary
