Hands on Woodturners 20 September, 2007
The Meeting came to order at 7:00 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Business in order of presentation:
1. Club President Nick DiMona opened the meeting and asked club Treasurer Frank Sospenzi to give the treasurer’s report. A motion was made and seconded to accept it, and it was accepted unanimously. Frank also provided club members with an update on the Florida Woodturning Symposium (FWS). FWS 2008 will be held at Lake Yale, 11-13 Jan. For FWS 2009, our own Barrie Harding and Richard Morris will be demonstrators. FWS 2008 will also be held at Lake Yale. Frank had brochures for FWS to distribute to members who wished to attend and have not received a sign up form in the mail.
2. Club Vice President, Tony Cortese, informed the club that the all day demonstration scheduled for 3 Nov 2007 has been cancelled, Barrie Harding has agreed to provide a substitute all day demonstration on Saturday, 23 February 2008. This demo will be free to members and will include lunch.
3. Nick DiMona gave a report on the recent sawdust session at Rainbow Springs. He showed the tool handles and screw chucks that were made during the day’s event. He also informed the club that there was an opportunity to make toys for Kids with Cancer. Nick will host an event at his home and invite interested club members to help make toys for these kids.
4. Dave Melton discussed the upcoming Christmas Party. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed to have the Christmas party on 13 Dec 2007 vice the normal club meeting date (third Thursday of the month) of 20 Dec.
5. Nick announced that he will try to put out a club newsletter and asked if there are any members who would assist him. He also asked members to update their e-mail addresses as the newsletter will be primarily e-mailed to members.
6. After the instant gallery was reviewed by Nick, a drawing was held for the “bring back.” It was won by Jerry Brinkman.
Demonstration by Barrie Harding - Barrie demonstrated how to make a three sided vessel out of a square block of wood by mounting it by it’s corners. It was a great demo and Barrie made sure we relaxed and had plenty of laughs as we watched him do the impossible.
The next meeting will be 15 Oct 2007.
Respectfully submitted,
