Hands on Woodturners 15 Feb 2007 Meeting
The meeting began at 7:00 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club President Nick DiMona. There were 41 in attendance.
Business in order of presentation: 1. Thee guests were introduced: Ken Westcott, Bob Kingsley and Jim Wendell.
2. Tony Cortese reviewed the schedule of upcoming club events: - 3 March – Special Club event - Frank Johannesen will give a demo from 0900 to about 1600. Lunch will be provided. It will be free for club members but will cost $20 for non club members. - 15 March – Club meeting – Don Duden will be the demonstrator. - 19 April – Club meeting – Don Geiger will be the demonstrator. - 17 May – Club meeting – Dave Barriger will be the demonstrator. - 19 May – Club picnic – Rainbow Springs 0900. Details to follow.
3. Ron Whedon presented the club a check for $1,000 from FWS. This money will be used for special educational events.
4. The treasurer’s report was reviewed and accepted. The balance was $5,791.50. The minutes from the last meeting and treasurer’s report were available on the membership table for all members to review at leisure. Note: The treasurers report and the secretaries report are made on the club’s web site (www.handsonwoodturning.org).
5. A motion was made by Jesie Woddard and seconded by Ed Wyatt to authorize the video committee led by Rich Morris to purchase a video projector for the club. They were authorized to spend up to $1,000.
6. The demonstration was provided by Rich Morris. Rich used about 8 pre-turned pieces of unfinished cherry to demonstrate how he uses Pre-Catalized Mohawk Lacquer to finish his pieces. Sanding and finishing techniques were discussed and demonstrated. There was much very worthwhile discussion during the demonstration and it was both enjoyed and appreciated. Rich is one of the club’s top turners.
7. The meeting was adjourned by Nick DiMona at 9:00 p.m.
Next month’s meeting will be on 15 March 2007.
