Hands on Woodturners June 21, 2007
The Meeting came to order at 7:02 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Business in order of presentation:
1. The Treasurer’s report stated that the club had spent $1,581.98 during the past month, and revenues amounted to $238.00. The ending balance is now $5,689.66. A motion was made by Don Wither, seconded by Dave Melton and passed to accept the treasures report. 2. Club President Nick DiMona read a thank you letter to the members of Hands-On Woodturners from Pete Peterson at the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch. The letter expressed their sincere thanks for setting up their wood turning program and personally thanked Tony Cortese and Nick DiMona for making it all happen. 3. Don Wither made a motion that the club set aside $20/month in a special account to help offset fuel expenses for those club members traveling the round trip of over 100 miles each time we host a training session at the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch. The motion was seconded by Brian Sullivan and passed unanimously. 4. Nick DiMona announced that he and Tony Cortese will be hosting sawdust session at Nick’s shop or at Frank Sospenzi’s shop for several of the boys from the Sheriff’s Ranch. A motion made, seconded and passed for the club to fund up to $50 for the boys food and drinks during this all day sawdust session. 5. Dave Melton announced that there will be a Super Sawdust session at Rainbow Springs on 15 Sept 2007. There will also be an all day Demonstration by John Mascol at the VFW club on 17 Nov. This Demonstration will be free for club members. 6. All the tickets for the bowl saver donated by Bob Huss were sold and the winning ticket was held by George Benac. 7. The “bring back” was won by Ken Habedank.
Demonstration by club president Nick DiMona – Nick demonstrated his techniques and tools for making small boxes with tight fitting lids. During the demonstration he passed around several of his small boxes and also many of the special tools he has made or modified. It was a great demonstration and appreciated by all.
The next meeting will be 19 July 2007 with Ron Browning demonstrating some of his techniques for segmented turning.
