Hands on Woodturners 15 March 2007 Meeting
The meeting began at 7:10 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club President Nick DiMona. There were 58 in attendance. Business in order of presentation: 1. One new member, Ken Markus, and six guests were introduced. Four of the guests were from Top Of The World.
2. Club President, Nick DiMona outlined the coming events for the club and told members that all the information in kept current on the club’s web site: www.handsonwoodturning.org
3. Club treasurer, Frank Sospenzi, gave the treasurer’s report. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the report. The treasurer’s report and the club minutes were available for members to review and are available on the club’s web site.
4. Tony Cortese talked about the future events he has scheduled and Dave Melton added some comments on the picnic and all day sawdust session. - 19 April – club meeting – Don Geiger will be the demonstrator - 17 May – club meeting – Dave Barringer will be the demonstrator - 19 May – club picnic – Rainbow Springs starting at 0900 – sawdust session - 21 June – club meeting – Nick DiMona will be the demonstrator - 19 July – club meeting – Ron Browning will be the demonstrator
5. Tony Cortese told the club about the woodturning program the club is sponsoring at the Florida Sheriff’s Boys Ranch. Tony Cortese and Nick DiMona will give a demonstration and teaching session at the Boys Ranch on Friday, 16 March 2007. The plan is to have club members provide a minimum of two of these teaching/demonstration days each month. This is a new initiative and we will learn as we go.
6. A motion was made, seconded and passed to raffle the clubs coring tool valued at approximately $150. Thirty (and only 30), $5 raffle tickets will be printed and sold. When the thirty tickets have been sold, the winning ticket will be drawn.
7. Non Nelson brought the “Bring Back” and it was won by Joe Stajduhar.
8. Don Duden was the demonstrator. Rather than crank up the club’s lathe, Don brought about ten of the items he had turned and talked about the the techniques he used make each one. He started with the first bowl he ever turned and ended up with some of the complex things he is presently doing in his shop today. It was a GREAT session and much appreciated by all in attendance!
Next Month’s meeting will be on 19 April.
