Hands on Woodturners 18 October, 2007
The Meeting came to order at 7:00 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club president Nick DiMona.
Business in order of presentation:
1. Club President Nick DiMona opened the meeting and asked club Treasurer Frank Sospenzi to give the treasurer’s report. A motion was made by Jesse Woodard and seconded by Brian Sullivan to accept it. It was accepted unanimously. Frank also gave a pitch for FWS which will be from 11 to 13 Jan 2008.
2. Club Vice President, Tony Cortese provided a report on the Sheriff’s Boys Ranch project. Tony and Nick were there for the annual open house at the Boys Ranch and the wood turnings the boys did were a huge success. The club also received a nice letter from the Boys Ranch thanking us for helping them.
3. Dave Melton discussed the upcoming Christmas Party and a sign up list was circulated. The Christmas party will be held on 13 Dec 2007 vice the normal club meeting date (third Thursday of the month) of 20 Dec. Members attending will bring a desert or side dish and the main course will be provided by the club. There will be an ornament and gift exchange.
4. The instant gallery was reviewed by Nick. There was no drawing for the “bring back” as there was none available at this meeting. The last “bring back” was won by Jerry Brinkman. A raffle was held and there were several pieces of beautiful wood donated by Richard Morris in addition to some club supplied items and some special tool handles made by Nick DiMona.
Demonstration by Nick DiMona. Club President Nick DiMona demonstrated how to make oval and triangular shaped tool handles by offsetting the wood stock on the lathe. It was a very useful demonstration and much appreciated by all.
The next meeting will be 15 Nov 2007.
Respectfully submitted,
