Hands on Woodturners

                                               21 Sep 2006 Meeting

The meeting began at 7:06 PM with the Pledge of Allegiance led by club President Ron Browning.

There were 34 in attendance with 30 singing in.  Ron also informed club members that because he has moved to Orlando he will not be running for club president next year.  We will miss him!!!!!

   Business in order of presentation:

1.  Ron informed the club that Charles Surles is going to discontinue selling wood turning supplies.  Everything that remains in his inventory was on sale during the break and after the meeting with a 20% discount.  There was a discussion concerning the club purchasing the remaining inventory and using it for raffle prizes, etc.  A motion was made by Dave Melton and seconded by Don Wither for the club to purchase the remaining inventory.  The motion was passed unanimously.

2.  There was a discussion concerning using a digital projector and a large screen for viewing our demos vice the current multiple TV hookups.  We have had a demonstration of systems similar to what is being considered for purchase, last month and again this month.  There is a committee for this and they asked that we go ahead and purchase a large screen while we continue research on the best projector for our use.  Brian Sullivan made a motion to authorize Richard Morris to purchase a screen for less than $400.  The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

3.  Barrie Harding asked for a show of hands for what he will demo next month.  The choice was a thin walled vase or a Christmas ornament.  The majority voted for Barrie to demo making one of his thin walled vases with as much piercing as he has time for.

4.  The club did purchase a new 7’ x 14’ triler with tandem axels.  The cost was $3,657 (almost $1,000 less than $4,600 authorized at last months meeting) as indicated in the treasures report for August.  The new trailer is already in use and members were able to get a good look at it as we loaded and unloaded the club lathe and equipment for the meeting.

5.  Dave Melton informed the club that we will be able to sell things we have turned at the Dunnellon Heritage Days.  This will be held at the Rainbow Springs State Park from 0900 until 1600 hours on 27 – 28 Oct 2006.  Dave also encouraged members to plan to attend the club’s Christmas party during the December meeting, 21 Dec 2006.

6.  Richard Morris won the “bring back” by Ron Browning.

.

Richard Morris did the demo.  He did a marvelous job of demonstrating the turning of a hollow ball with a captive ring.  He had one on display that he had previously turned and finished.  Richard told us that this was Hans Weissflog’s Saturn Box that Hans demonstrated at the AAW Symposium in Louisville this past year.  The demo was enjoyed and much appreciated by all.

Next month the demo will be by Barrie Harding on 19 Oct 2006.

 Respectfully submitted,
